Winter view of the Oudeschans canal with the Montelbaan tower, from the Prince Henrik's Quay. The Montelbaantoren was built in 1516, when it was decided to dig the Oudeschans and Zwanenburgwa canals, and originally had the function of a defensive structure - in the previous years this side of the city had been endangered twice by the army of Duke Carl van Gelre.
