Měcholupy, Church of St. Lawrence, church before demolition, 1985

The Baroque church was a single-nave oriented building with a rectangular nave and a recessed, three-sided presbytery. Low annexes, a sacristy and a chapel, were added to both sides of the choir. A prismatic tower with a low roof was attached to the west facade. The exterior facades were articulated by wide pilasters and a profiled cornice in the upper part. The furnishings were Rococo, dating from the second half of the 18th century. The main altar was acquired after 1750; the painting of the Martyrdom of St. Lawrence was replaced by a new one in 1864. Two side altars date from 1759 (St. Anne) and 1763 (Assumption of the Virgin Mary). A stone baptismal font with a pewter bowl from 1663 has been preserved from the older furnishings. During the second half of the 20th century, the church was unused and gradually fell into disrepair. The roof collapsed, and the trusses and wall crown were damaged. The site of the church has been reverently arranged with a cross and a stylized altar.
