Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Freight Station Pier 21 (East River) - ca. 1920's, 1920-1925

Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's Pier 21 freight station (East River) circa 1920s. A Central Railroad of New Jersey ventilated boxcar, a rare sight, is visible. Similar cars were used by the Atlantic Coast Line in New York until the 1950s, often transporting seasonal watermelons, earning them the nickname "watermelon cars" among model train enthusiasts. From the E. Bommer collection.
