The village of Almatamac, through which Otmar's brigade of Bosquet's division advanced, before ascending the heights on a path to the right of two trees. The Alma River flows between the village and the heights. The left, less elevated crest of the heights was occupied by two reserve battalions of the Brest Regiment and two of the Tarutino Jaeger Regiment; these formed the extreme left flank of the Russian position.
