In the mid-19th century, the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus, with an orphanage and a well-regarded school, stood at the intersection of Victoria Street and Bras Basah Road. The nuns relocated in 1893, but the school remained. Today, the complex is known as CHIJMES, housing restaurants, bars, and shops.
