Mírkov, Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, 1975

The nave of the chapel, built in front of a sandstone cliff with its rear section carved into the rock, was demolished in 1977. The rock-hewn presbytery remains, with some later additions to the stonework. This pseudo-Romanesque, single-nave chapel was built after 1800 on the site of a hermitage, in a beautiful location about half a kilometer south of the settlement. The furnishings, contemporary with the construction, were destroyed by soldiers repairing the nearby road before the demolition.. Read more ». A large pile of rubble (sandstone and brick) marks the site of the nave, with only the front left corner surviving to a height of about 1.2 meters. The tower was destroyed earlier, in 1975. The chapel is not registered in the land registry, and the land belongs to the municipality of Povrly.
