
In September 1962, the Peace Race cycling event started in Tihany, Hungary, traversing Czechoslovakia and reaching its turning point in Kyiv. From there, the route continued through Poland, back through Czechoslovakia, and finally to Dresden. On September 6th, the cyclists crossed the Oder-Neisse border near Görlitz, beginning the final 850 km through East Germany.
