The Big Solar Furnace is a sophisticated, automated optical-mechanical complex. It uses a heliostat field and a parabolic concentrator to create a high-density, stationary energy flux at the concentrator's focal point. The reflecting surface area of the heliostat field is 3020 m², and the concentrator's is 1840 m². Temperatures at the focal point exceed 3000 degrees Celsius. It is the world's largest solar furnace.
