Obelisk, 1907

Singapore
obelisk

The Dalhousie Obelisk, commemorating the 1850 visit of the Marquess of Dalhousie, Governor-General of India, to Singapore, was relocated several times. From 1891, it stood northeast of the old Town Hall and Victoria Theatre, near the Cricket Club. Finally, in the 1910s, following the area's redevelopment after the construction of Anderson Bridge (1909), it was moved to its current location southeast of Victoria Theatre, by the Asian Civilisations Museum and Anderson Bridge.
