
The Concertgebouw, Amsterdam's concert hall, opened on April 11, 1888, with a performance of works by Bach, Handel, Beethoven, and Wagner. Designed by architect Adolf Leonard van Gendt, its construction spanned from 1883 to 1888. The resident orchestra, also named Concertgebouw, debuted six months later.
