Leidseplein (Leiden Square), along with Dam Square and Rembrandt Square, is one of Amsterdam's most famous squares, known for its entertainment and nightlife. Located southwest of the city center, it takes its name from the Leidsepoort, a former city gate demolished in 1862, which stood on the road connecting Amsterdam to Leiden.
