Tour de France 1954 began on July 8th at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. Stage 1 covered 223 km to Antwerp. The Amsterdam Olympic Stadium, now an Olympic museum, hosted the 1928 Summer Olympics and was the first to feature a tower for the Olympic flame.
