At 10:50 on December 1, 2002, the roof, truss, bell, and approximately half of the bell tower's masonry collapsed. The debris was partially removed and partially stored around the cemetery for potential future reconstruction. The remaining masonry (about half) was stabilized with steel cables. In 2009, the collapsed half of the masonry was rebuilt to a height of approximately 3 meters and temporarily roofed. The remaining standing half was also temporarily roofed.
