Opened in 1903 as the first women-only hotel, accommodating both short-term and long-term guests, the hotel quickly filled to capacity with a substantial waiting list. Initially offering 416 rooms, the building, originally called the Womens Hotel, was later renamed the Martha Washington, and then Hotel Thirty Thirty, Hotel Lola, and King and Grove New York. It received landmark status from the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 2012.
