View of the Bailov Peninsula - Cape, 1923-1924

Azerbaijan
Baku,
view-of-the-bailov-peninsula-cape

A rare postcard view of the Bayilov Peninsula, featuring the Naval Cathedral, its dark, pointed spire rising to the right of the hill. Everything visible, including the coastline, has since been demolished, altered, or leveled. The postcard's rarity stems from a misprint ("Bailov" instead of "Bayilov") in its 5,000-copy print run. The name Bayilov (originally Bayil) derives from the island and cape of Sabayil and was later applied to the settlement.
