A 20-kilometer panorama of the Baku Bay was visible from the park. The monument to Sergey Kirov, located in Kirov Park (now Martyrs' Alley), was unveiled in 1939. The total height of the monument was 26 meters. Sculptor Pinkhos (Peter) Vladimirovich Sabsay (1893-1980) was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1942 for his work. The architect of the monument and stairway, Lev Alexandrovich Ilyin (1880-1942), died in besieged Leningrad during a German air raid. The monument has been destroyed.
