The domed building, now the Museum Center of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was designed by Azerbaijani architect Hasan Majidov and constructed in 1960, opening in 1961 as a branch of Moscow's Lenin Museum. It was originally built to commemorate Lenin's 90th birthday.
