On August 5, 1987, a small plane made an emergency landing on Hawthorne's Prarie Avenue after engine failure, hitting a Porsche. Later that day, a commuter plane en route to Lancaster from LAX and another private plane nearly collided mid-air over the Antelope Valley, though both landed safely without serious injuries.
