Monument to the first ships on the Kherson embankment, 1978


A monument to the first ships of the Black Sea Fleet was erected in 1972 on the embankment along Ushakov Prospect. This location was the site of the Kherson shipyard in 1783, where the 66-gun ship "Glory of Catherine" was launched on September 16th, becoming the first ship of the Black Sea Fleet. The monument's creators were sculptors I.G. Belokur, V.N. Potrebenko, and V.L. Shkuropat, and architects G.P. Sikula and Yu.P. Tarasov.
