The photo was taken from the Baku City Duma building. To the left is a section of the Governor's Mikhailovsky City Garden. The Mirzabyekyan brothers' house is in the center, followed by the intersection with Buynakskaya Street and a portion of Saint Nina's girls' gymnasium (on the right). The architect of the high-rise building was civil engineer V.S. Sarkisov (Sargsyan). This seven-story building of the Mirzabyekyan brothers stood before the Governor's Garden. The first phase of the high-rise—its corner section in the photo—was completed in 1908. The foundation of the central part was laid in 1911, and construction (including the addition of the second phase under a common roof) finished in 1915. Anticipating the prolongation and worsening conditions of World War I, the brothers sold the building to Musa Nagiyev. In Soviet times, the building housed various government institutions.
