The village of Almatamac, through which Otmar's brigade of Bosquet's division advanced, before ascending the heights on a path to the right of two trees. The Alma River flows between the village and the heights. The left, less elevated crest of the heights was occupied by two reserve battalions of the Brest Regiment and two of the Tarutino Jaeger Regiment; these formed the extreme left flank of the Russian position.

Cherkes-Kermen village was located in a deep gorge near Eski-Kermen, west of the northern part of the Tapshan plateau. Traces of numerous dwellings and a cultural layer with 12th-14th century pottery remain at the bottom of the gorge. The village existed until the mid-20th century. A significant settlement, Krepkoye, was located there until the 1970s.

The Borodino infantry regiment and two batteries of the 16th artillery brigade were positioned near the Alma River, with orchards in front of them. Further on lay the village of Burliuk, from which Evans' division advanced against the Borodino regiment.

Remnants of the epaulement are visible from the pile of stones to the right, parallel to the monument. There are two monuments: a column to all Russians who fell at Alma, and a statue of a soldier to the Vladimirsky Regiment. In the background is the height where Prince Menshikov was located during the battle.
