Steam plant under way, 1963
On April 24, 1963, Burbank Mayor Charles Compton broke ground on a new steam-electric generating plant (Olive Avenue Unit No. 2). The plant's construction, estimated at $8 million, began with P and Z Pacific Inc. drilling 166 foundation piles. Over $5 million in contracts had already been awarded, with completion expected by January 1965. City Manager Harmon Bennett and Public Service Manager Ralph Foy oversaw the initial work.
