Toronto. Armistice Day Celebrations in 1918, 1918
Armistice Day is celebrated annually on November 11 to commemorate the end of hostilities on the Western Front and the signing of peace in the First World War. The Treaty between the Allies and Germany was signed at Compiegne (France) and came into force at eleven o'clock in the morning - the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" in 1918. Although the date officially marked the end of the war on the Western Front, fighting continued in other regions, especially in the former Russian Empire and parts of the old Ottoman Empire. The date was declared a national holiday in many of the Allied states. Adapted from http: en.m .wikipedia.org wiki Armistice_Day

The photos were taken during the 27-year-old actress’s visit to the Canadian province of Alberta. The photographs were taken in 1953, when photographer John Vachon, commissioned by LOOK magazine, photographed Monroe in Canada on the set of the film “The River Doesn’t Flow Backward.” However, only three photographs were selected for the magazine. In 1971, LOOK went bankrupt, and Vachon’s photographs, along with other materials from the magazine, moved to the archives of the US Library of Congress, where they were kept until 2008.
