Waldemar Erfurth (August 4, 1879, Berlin – May 2, 1971, Tübingen), German general of the infantry (April 1, 1940), Doctor of Philosophy (December 7, 1939). Entered the army September 20, 1897, commissioned as lieutenant in the 35th Fusilier Regiment January 27, 1899. Served in World War I. Remained in the Reichswehr after demobilization. Completed General Staff training. Chief of Staff, 1st Army Group Command from November 1, 1927. Infantry Commander, 2nd Military District from October 1, 1929. Retired as Lieutenant General October 1, 1931. Returned to service September 1, 1934, leading a military experience study group within the Army General Staff. 5th Oberquartiermeister of the General Staff from November 1, 1938, responsible for the Army's military history service. Appointed liaison to the Finnish Army Headquarters, effectively to Marshal Mannerheim, on June 13, 1941. Recalled to Germany September 13, 1944, and assigned to special duties with the OKW. Awarded the Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords November 8, 1944.
