Barracks in the Kamppi area, 1918. During the war between the Reds and the Whites in Finland, the German corps of General Rüdiger von der Goltz landed in Helsinki to help the White troops. Here in Kamppi, armed clashes took place between German soldiers and Russian troops stationed in the Finnish capital and not yet withdrawn to their homeland. The photo captured the aftermath of the clashes, and some time later the barracks were demolished. In 1936, the Glass Palace (Lasipalatsi) was built on this site - one of the most notable functionalist buildings in Helsinki and a concentration of trade, culture, information and other spheres of activity, including a fashionable restaurant and media center.
