Leopold Maximilian Joseph Maria Arnulf, Duke of Bavaria at the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky, 1915
— a Russian Orthodox cathedral in the capital of Poland, built at the end of imperial Russia. It was located on Saxon Square (today renamed Pilsudski Square). The cathedral, designed by the outstanding Russian architect Leonty Nikolaevich Benois, was founded in 1894 and opened in 1912. After completion, the cathedral reached a height of 70 meters and was at that time the tallest building in Warsaw. The cathedral was destroyed by the Polish authorities in the mid-1920s, less than 15 years after its opening. The main motives for the demolition were that the cathedral, which occupied one of the main squares of Warsaw, was a reminder of Russian rule over Poland. In addition to the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky in Warsaw, the Poles destroyed many other Orthodox churches in the country for the same reasons.
