Odd Fellows Hall, NY, 1975
Built in 1847-48 in Manhattan's Nolita/Little Italy area, the Italianate Odd Fellows Hall at 165-171 Grand Street was one of New York City's earliest examples of this style, designed by Trench and Snook. John B. Snook later designed many cast-iron buildings in SoHo. The mansard roof was a later addition (1881-82) by John Buckingham. Originally used by the Odd Fellows until the 1880s, the building later housed commercial and industrial businesses and now contains residential condominiums.

Thompson and Grand Streets NYC, 1927
Was there ever a time when New York City was not under construction? Here, at the corner of Thompson and Grand in November, 1927, construction is business as usual. The photographer looks east, past construction on either side of the street, toward the West Broadway and the Grand Street Station of the Sixth Avenue Elevated Train, which ceased running in 1938. It was replaced by the IND line, which is probably what is being built in this photograph.
